A mid-drive motor on an eBike means the motor is positioned at the bike’s bottom bracket (between the pedals) rather than in the wheels (hub motor). This setup provides a more balanced weight distribution and directly powers the drivetrain, allowing for better efficiency, torque, and performance—especially on hills and rough terrain. Mid-drive motors are preferred for off-road riding, climbing, and long-distance efficiency since they leverage the bike’s gears for optimal power delivery.
The speed of a mid-drive eBike depends on factors like motor power and battery capacity. Generally, Class 1 and Class 2 eBikes provide assistance up to 20 MPH (32 km/h), while Class 3 eBikes, such as the Mustang, can assist up to 28 MPH (45 km/h). Mid-drive systems offer excellent performance, making them a great choice for various riding needs.
Yes—most major electric bike brands stick to pedal-assist only for their mid-drive eBikes because adding a throttle can put too much strain on the chain.
But the Musang is an exception! It comes with a throttle for a reason—it’s designed specifically for senior mid-drive eMTB riders who may have knee issues but still love cycling. And to prevent strain on the chain, we’ve upgraded it with an 9-speed gear system.
So, feel free to buy with confidence!
The Mustang weighs 59 lbs without the battery, making it the lightest model in the HAOQI eBike lineup.
While it is a bit heavier compared to the Aventon Ramblas, there is a good reason for it. First, unlike common slim tires, the 27.5×2.8'' mid-fat tires provide both stability and flexibility for a better riding experience.
Even when compared to the Aventon Ramblas, which costs $2,899 and comes with a hardtail design, the full suspension of the Mustang makes it unique, though it also adds some extra weight.
Compared to other 500W mid-drive eBikes in the under $2,000 price range, HAOQI uses the Bafang M560, a well-known brand recognized for its 130Nm of torque and lightweight design. This motor is renowned for its exceptional torque, making it ideal for mountain riding and climbing. Within this price range, it stands out as the top-performing 500W mid-drive motor.
The quiet performance of the Mustang’s motor comes from a combination of factors: the quieter Bafang mid-drive design, our precise manufacturing process, and most importantly, the sine wave controller—which plays a major role in reducing noise.
The Mustang model can be upgraded to an air shock, provided the specifications match (size and travel compatibility). As for the dropper seatpost, the Mustang frame is designed to accommodate one, so you can add it without any issues.
